PLAYOFFS: Round of 3

The regular season has wrapped up and the matchups are now established.  As a reminder, seeding is determined by points, then wins, head to head, and then point differential.

Silver finished with the first seed, by leading the league with 29 points.  With the first seed, Silver will match up against Green, Teal, and Purple.  Silver has a 3-1-2 record against these teams in the regular season.

Yellow and Black each finished with 22 points, and Yellow secured the second seed by virtue of their 10 wins on the season over Black’s 9 wins.  With the second seed, Yellow will face Orange, Gold, and Neon.  Yellow is 6-0-0 against these teams in the regular season.  With the third seed, Black will face Neon, Red, and Gold.  Black was 4-1-1 in the regular season against these teams.

Red finished with 19 points, earning them the fourth seed and rematches with Purple, Black, and Teal.  Red finished the regular season 3-2-1 against these teams.

Orange and Green each finished with 17 points, but Orange’s 7 wins bested Green’s 6 to earn Orange the fifth seed, where they will face Yellow, Purple, and Green.  Orange finished the regular season 2-4-0 against these teams.  With the sixth seed, Green will face Silver, Neon, and Orange.  Green finished the regular season 3-3-0 against these teams.

Teal and Gold each finished with 15 points, where Teal’s 6 wins had them finishing ahead of Gold’s 5, for the seventh seed, where they will face Gold, Silver, and Red.  Teal finished the regular season 1-5-0 against these teams.  Gold’s eighth seed earns them a rematch with Teal, Yellow and Black.  Gold finished the regular season 2-3-1 against these teams.

Neon finished with 14 points and the ninth seed and rematches with Black, Green, and Yellow.  Neon finished the regular season 2-4-0 against these teams.

Purple finished with 10 points and the tenth seed, and rematched with Red, Orange, and Silver.  Purple finished the regular season 1-3-2 against these teams.

All teams are guaranteed these three games, after which the top 4 point earners in these three games will advance (2 points for a win, 1 for a tie, 0 for a loss), with the higher seed winning the tiebreakers to advance to the semi-finals. Good luck to all!

Final Week of Regular Season

Heading into the final week of the regular season, much remains unsettled.  Only two teams have locked in their regular season seeding, Silver in the first seed and Purple in the tenth seed!

Regular season seeding is determined by:

1)      Points

2)      Wins

3)      Head to head

4)      Point differential

Tonight’s matchups

In the first matchup of the night at 7:30, Red versus Neon, Red enters holding the 4th seed and needing a series sweep win, or a tie and a Green not winning versus Orange in the next game, to finish in 4th, otherwise could finish with a 5th seed.  Neon enters in the 7th seed where a win and an Orange tie or loss will allow them to move up to the 6th seed, but a loss could have them drop as far as 9th!

Following this at 8:30 Green skates against Orange.  Green looks to sweep this series and pending the results of the first game a win or tie will be either a 4th or 5th place finish, and a loss will drop them to 6th.  An Orange victory will not only even the series for the year, but could place them in 4th with a Red loss, or 5th otherwise, but a loss could have them moving as far back as 9th as Neon, Gold, and Teal could each pass Orange with a win on the last night!

Gold and Silver are up next at 9:30, where Silver owns the first matchup between the two this year.  Silver has also locked up the #1 seed, and will look to return to their winning ways as they enter post season play.  Gold is sitting in the 8th seed as they enter tonight, with the possibility of finishing as high as 6th, with Orange and Neon losses, or as far back as 9th, with a loss and a Teal victory.

The evening and the regular season will close with a 10:30 rematch between Black and Teal.  Since they tied in their first matchup, the series is up for grabs.  Black enters the night sitting in the 3rd seed needing a win or a tie to move them into the 2nd seed, or a loss has them locked in 3rd.  Teal enters with the 9th seed, but can move up with a win.  How far they can move up depends on whether Orange, Neon, and/or Gold lose.  Each one of those teams losses gives Teal another rung to move up to, as high as 6th!

Yellow and Purple are idle on the last night of the regular season.  Yellow sits in the 2nd seed, pending the outcome of Black’s game, but can only move as low as 3rd.  Purple finishes in the 10th seed, and will look to hit the playoffs refreshed.

Playoffs – round of three

With the Silver 1st place finish, they will skate in the round of three against the 6th, 7th, and 10th (Purple) finishers.  Green, Orange, Neon, Gold, and Teal are all possible in the 6th seed, and only Green among these is not in competition for the 7th seed.

Black and Yellow will need tonight to determine which is 2nd and which is 3rd.  Both will play 8th and 9th seeds in the round of three, which we need tonight to determine whether those are Orange, Neon, Gold, or Teal, but the same teams are competing for both of these spots.  The 2nd seed will also play the 5th place team, and the 3rd seed will also play the 4th place team.  Red, Green, and Orange enter tonight competing for the 4th and 5th place seeds.

Red, Green, and Orange enter tonight competing for the 4th seed, which will matchup against 3rd, 7th, and 10th (Purple).  The same teams are vying for 5th, which will matchup against 2nd, 6th, and 10th (Purple).

6th through 9th are wide open, one of those spots being filled by whoever drops out of the 4th/5th race above (Green or Orange), as well as Neon, Gold, and Teal.  The 6th seed will matchup against 1st (Silver), 5th, and 9th.  The 7th seed will matchup against 1st (Silver), 4th, and 8th.  The 8th seed will matchup against 2nd, 3rd, and 7th.  The 9th seed will matchup against 2nd, 3rd, and 6th.

Purple will skate in the round of three against the 1st (Silver), as well as the 4th and 5th seeds (two teams among Red, Green and Orange).

Look for updates next week about the Playoffs and matchups.  While the lower seeds certainly have a tougher schedule to make it to the semi-finals, all teams will begin the Playoffs needing only three wins to ensure their semi-final berth.  Good luck!

Letter from The President

AOTHA Members,

Thank you for sticking with us throughout the season of unknowns, we hope that you were able to enjoy what we were able to schedule and play! To say that scheduling ice times was difficult this year is an understatement. I assure you that we did the best we could with all of the worlds unknowns and what was available.

To answer a couple questions that have arisen;

  1. Each regular skater will have a balance of $175, and goalies will have a balance of about $60 left from the season as we only played half of the regular scheduled games. We will carry this amount over for next season with $50 to be applied to the yearly registration fees and the remainder to go towards next seasons fees which we anticipate to stay the same unless hourly ice fees increase.
  2. Teams carrying over into next season. Interesting idea and we will discuss it at our end of season board meeting in the near future.

As we end this ‘season’ we will soon begin to prepare for the next and we all hope that it is one of normalcy. Again, we thank you all for sticking with us and being understanding as we navigated a myriad of obstacles and unknows throughout the season. We hope everyone has a great summer and look forward to seeing everyone this September.

AOTHA Board President

2020-2021 AOTHA Season Schedule

Welcome back AOTHA!

The schedule is completed and is currently being added to the website. While it is our desire to have the schedule set in stone, please understand that in the age of COVID, this schedule is subject to change quickly. In January, there will most likely be some changes as the college hockey seasons get under way.

Captains will do their best to make you aware of changes as they occur.

The total schedule will be on the website by the end of this weekend, so check back soon for dates and times.

A Letter From the AOTHA President

AOTHA Members,

First and most importantly, we hope that everyone has been able to make the best of the last six months of 2020 and that everyone and their families have been well.

We are hopeful for and making plans for an October 4th, 2020 start to the 2020/21 AOTHA season. We do this with the realization that because of various restrictions attributed to the ‘covid pandemic’, there are circumstances out of our control as well as Adrian College’s control, that play major factors in their ability to fully open the rink and our ability to access it.

As we look at all of our options, we see that there are multiple ways that this could all play out. In a perfect scenario, we start our season on the hopeful 10/4/20 start date and play a full season which we are optimistically preparing for. We are also prepared to make adjustments to facilitate any changes that may occur along the way that could affect our season such as; starting earlier, starting later, having a shortened season, playing later into next year, bench and locker room cleaning/sanitizing requirements, etc. etc.

The fact remains that we as well as A/C’s A.I.A. are at the ‘mercy’ of our governor and other governing bodies directly related to a college facility.

As we do look at a hopeful start date of 10/4/20, we have extended the season fee’s due date to September 7th, 2020 at 8:00 a.m. We anticipate conducting the draft soon after that date. In the event that our season game total, as compared to previous years, is shortened all members will be given a pro-rated refund of season dues.

Thank you all for the patience and understanding during this so far and please, let me assure you that we are doing everything with the best interest of the league and its members in mind. We all want to be back on the ice as quickly and safely as possible. As more, definitive information is known it will be passed along through last year’s team captains.

We genuinely look forward to seeing everyone at the rink, hopefully sooner than later!
