Playoffs – Week 3

After a regular season that came down to the final week to settle nine of the ten seeds, only two weeks of playoffs have determined three of the four semi-final participants.  Reminder, all teams will have a game the next week, regardless of whether they are in one of the semi-final matches.  Here are the standings after two weeks of playoffs.

The third week of the playoffs opens at 5PM with a re-match of Gold and Orange.  Gold edged out Orange in the regular season series, 1-0-1, outscoring Orange 9 – 5.  Orange will not be able to advance with a win, regardless, and Gold will advance, with the 1st to 4th place finish still possible, but no lower.

Following will be a rematch of Red and Purple at 6PM.  Purple edged out Red 1-0-1 in the regular season series, outscoring Red 7 – 6.  Both teams are 0-2 in the playoffs, and will not advance with a win.

Next up at 7PM will be a Black and Teal rematch.  Teal won the regular season series 1-0-1, with a 6-6 tie and an 8-2 win.  Teal has locked in their advancement, but not their position.  Teal can finish anywhere from 1st to 4th, but will not be eliminated.  Black would move up with a win, but only one spot, so can finish no higher than 5th.

At 8PM will be a Green and Silver rematch, in the most consequential meeting of the night.  Green dominated the regular season 2-0, outscoring Silver 10-3, but both teams will enter this game in a very different place than the last time they met.  Green narrowly righted the ship last week after a four game winless streak, where their league leading goal scoring average stalled and they were only able to score 9 goals in those 4 games.  Silver finished the regular season 0-5-2 in their last 7, scoring 2.4 goals per game, but has scored 10 in two playoff games en route to their first two game winning streak of the season.  The winner of this game will advance, and the loser will not, where a tie will advance Silver.

The evening will close with a 9PM rematch between Yellow and Neon.  Yellow dominated the regular season series, winning both games outscoring Neon 11-3.  Yellow will advance regardless of this result, and Neon will not.
