After the round of three Playoff games, the semi final matchups have been set.  It is very clear that four teams came prepared for playoff hockey, and they will advance!  The standings after this round are:

The first matchup of the evening, at 5PM, will be a Yellow versus Silver rematch.  Yellow swept Silver in the regular season, outscoring them 6 – 2 in their matches.  Yellow entered the playoffs as the favorite and has lived up to expectations, winning all three games by a combined score of 13 – 4!  Silver, however, entered the playoffs having been unable to string two wins together all season, struggling to score more than 3 goals in any game.  In the playoffs though, they have been a scoring juggernaut, winning all three games by a combined score of 16 – 8.  Only one of these teams will make it four in a row and earn their spot in the Championship game!

Following this will be the other semi-final matchup, at 6PM, a Teal versus Gold rematch.  Teal edged out Gold 1-0-1 in the regular season, outscoring Gold 5 to 3.  Aside from their close meetings, their seasons mirrored each other as well.  They finished the season 1 point apart before both tearing through this playoff round, Teal going 3 – 0 outscoring opponents 13 – 7 and Gold going 3 – 0 outscoring opponents 12 – 3.  This third meeting between the two will be the decider for who advances to the Championship game!

For those that followed the earlier post about regular season seeds that have had success moving on to the semi finals, you will note that the fifth and ninth seeds have advanced for the first time.  While the top six seeds have mostly filled these spots, every seed except the tenth have now advanced.

The remaining six teams will play their final game of the season against other eliminated teams.  At 7PM, Green will rematch with Purple, where Green edged Purple out 1-0-1 in their earlier games.  At 8PM, Orange will rematch with Black where both prior meetings were ties!  At 9PM, Red will rematch with Neon who also tied both regular season meetings!

The semi final winners on 3/19 will face each other in the championship game on 3/26, following the consolation game.  The consolation game will be at 5:00 PM on 3/26.

Formats for the semi final and final game vary from the regular season and round of three, as ties are not allowed.  In the semi final games, if tied at the end of 3 periods, there will be one sudden death overtime period, followed by a 3 player shootout round, followed by individual shootout rounds with different shooters, until a winner emerges.  The finals, if tied at the end of 3 periods, there will be sudden death overtime periods until a winner emerges.
