Playoffs: Week 2

Goalies and goal scorers alike returned to earth as the 58 goal outing of week 1 turned into a paltry 26 goals in week 2. This week’s games eliminated 3 teams from semi-final contention in Orange, Neon, and Purple, while locking 2 teams in the semi-finals in Green and Yellow. Teal or Royal are in, and Red, Silver or Black will take the remaining spot. Games and scenarios follow the standings, with semi-final matchups too many to list. If your team is, or gets eliminated on 3/11 from semi-final contention, stay tuned for one last scheduled matchup on 3/18 between eliminated teams. Here are the standings after this weeks games:

Place Team Points Reg Season Seed
1 Green 4 1
2 Yellow 4 4
3 Red 3 2
4 Teal 3 5
5 Royal 2 6
6 Silver 2 8
7 Black 2 9
8 Orange 0 3
9 Neon 0 7
10 Purple 0 10

We get a late start on the final weekend of the round of three, with the first game between Orange and Silver kicking off at 6:00 PM. Orange has been eliminated from semi-final contention, unable to catch the top four teams in the standings. Silver can finish in 4th with a win and a Red loss. A Silver tie or loss, or a Red tie or win, eliminates Silver.

The second game of the night begins with a puck drop at 7:00 PM between Green and Purple. Green is playing for seeding, as a win locks them into 1st place, where a tie or a loss could drop them as low as 4th place. Purple has been eliminated from semi-final contention.

The 8:00 PM game is the only play in game of the night. The winner between Teal and Royal will advance, with a tie advancing Teal. With a win or a tie, Teal could finish in any of the top 4 places and in the semi-finals, where a Royal win will have them in 3rd or 4th place and in the semi-finals.

At 9:00 PM, Yellow and Neon will skate in another game with seeding on the line. Yellow is in the semi-finals regardless of this game, but could end up anywhere from 1st to 4th. Neon has been eliminated from semi-final contention.

The round closes with the 10:00 PM game between Red and Black. Red advances to the semi-finals with a win or a tie. Black will be rooting for Orange in the opening game, as they need this victory and a Silver loss or tie against Orange to advance to the semi-finals.

AOTHA CAPTAIN VOTE

Playoffs: Week 1

The first week of the Playoffs is in the books and it was an exciting night for fans of scoring, with 58 goals netted in the 5 games! Results didn’t mirror seed either, as the semi-final participants are far from secured. Here are the standings after last week:

Place Team Points Reg Season Seed
1 Green 2 1
2 Yellow 2 4
3 Silver 2 8
4 Black 2 9
5 Red 1 2
6 Teal 1 5
7 Orange 0 3
8 Royal 0 6
9 Neon 0 7
10 Purple 0 10

March 4th’s games open at 5:00 PM with an Orange versus Yellow matchup of the 3rd and 4th seed. A Yellow victory would leave them in a very favorable position heading into their final game of the round against Neon. An Orange victory would have them right back in the mix for the semis when they close out the round against Silver.

At 6:00 PM, Red will take on Silver in a matchup of the 2nd and 8th seeds. Red finds itself in the unfamiliar position of chasing at the moment, sitting in 5th place and first team out of the semis, but with Silver and their final opponent, Black, sitting in front of them, they have a clear path in. With Silver’s 8th seed they are unable to rest on many tiebreakers, and a victory will go a long ways towards securing their playoff turnaround when they close out the round against Orange.

At 7:00 PM, Green will take on Neon in a matchup of the 1st and 7th seeds. A Green victory would leave them at the top of the standings with Purple standing in their way of locking up that top spot in the semis. Neon, in 9th place and few tiebreakers, needs a win to stay in the hunt, with their round of three closing with Yellow.

At 8:00 PM, Royal will face Black in the 6th versus 9th seed game. Royal needs a victory here to get back in the mix before their final matchup of the round against Teal. Going from 9th seed to top 4 is daunting, and a Black win will put them on the doorstep of completing that turnaround the following week when they close out against Red.

At 9:00 PM, Teal will face Purple in the 5th versus 10th seed game. Teal’s tie in the first game kept them hovering just outside of the top 4. A Teal win will have them right in the mix when they close out the round against Royal. Purple will need a win and some help to stay in the mix when they close out the round against Green.

Playoff Matchups

The regular season has wrapped up and the matchups are now established. As a reminder, seeding is determined by points, then wins, head to head, and then point differential.

Green has the first seed with 27 points, and will face Royal, Neon, and Purple in the round of three.

Red, Orange, and Yellow all finished with 22 points, and 9 wins. Red was 1-1-0 against both Orange and Yellow, but rode their league leading 74 goals for to an impressive 17 goal differential over Orange’s 6 and Yellow’s 1. Off this goal differential tiebreaker, Red has secured the second seed, and will face Teal, Silver, and Black.

Orange is 1-0-1 against, Yellow, winning the next tiebreaker. With the third seed, Orange will face Black, Yellow, and Silver.

With the fourth seed, Yellow will face Purple, Orange, and Neon.

Teal finished with 20 points and the fifth seed, and will face Red, Purple, and Royal.

Royal finished with 19 points and the sixth seed, and will face Green, Black, and Teal.

Neon finished with 14 points and the seventh seed, and will face Silver, Green, and Yellow.

Silver and Black each finished with 13 points and 5 wins, and their head to head matchups resulted in a 1-1-0 record. Silver won the final tiebreaker with a -6 point differential to Black’s -8, taking the eighth seed, and will face Neon, Red, and Orange.

With the ninth seed, Black will face Orange, Royal, and Red.

With 8 points, Purple finished with the tenth seed, and will face Yellow, Teal, and Green.

All teams are guaranteed these three games, after which the top 4 point earners in these three games will advance (2 points for a win, 1 for a tie, 0 for a loss), with the higher seed winning the tiebreakers to advance to the semi-finals. Good luck to everyone!
