Bulldog Hockey Reverse Raffle

Fellow AOTHA members,

The men’s and women’s NCAA Hockey programs are hosting the 12th Annual Reverse Raffle on April 20th. There will be a maximum of 344 tickets sold for the event. The $100 ticket gives you access to the event, dinner, beer/wine, and a 1 in 344 chance to win $10,000 or other various amounts (ranging from $100-$2,000). You do not need to be present to win, therefore, if you can’t make it to the event, your chances to win are just as great!

This Sunday night, Shawn Skelly and myself will be at the AOTHA Championship and Consolation games to sell tickets to those interested in supporting the programs. You may pay by cash, check, or credit card. We wanted to give you all a heads up that we will be there Sunday.

Thanks for another great AOTHA season, we appreciate the opportunity to get to know you all, play in a fun environment, and continue the locker room camaraderie that we greatly miss from our playing days!!!

Best wishes to all this summer!

Semi-Finals

After the round of three Playoff games, the four semi finalists have been established.  Neon from the 6thplace regular season finish, and Red from the 7thplace regular season finish, were able to win against higher seeded teams and join 3rdseed Teal and 2ndseed Green in the next round.  Here are the standings after this round.

The semi-final games will begin at 6:00 PM, when Green takes on Neon.  Green has the 2-0-0 advantage over Neon.  In the second matchup at 7:00 PM, Teal will take on Red.  Teal and Red split their regular season matchups 1-1-0.  Seeding no longer matters as the winners will face off the following week for the AOTHA championship!

Reminder that formats for the semi final and final game vary from the regular season and round of three, as ties are not allowed. In the semi final games, if tied at the end of 3 periods, there will be one sudden death overtime period, followed by a 3 player shootout round, followed by individual shootout rounds with different shooters, until a winner emerges. The finals, if tied at the end of 3 periods, there will be sudden death overtime periods until a winner emerges.  As with the rest of the playoffs, one timeout per team is permitted.

Following the semi final matchups, at 8:00 PM Yellow will face Orange, where Orange owns a slight 1-0-1 advantage.  At 9:00 PM, Black will face Gold, where Gold holds the 2-0-0 advantage, in a battle of the two teams who finished just outside of the final four.  The final matchup of the evening will be at 10:00 PM between Purple and Silver, where the teams couldn’t decide a regular season winner with 2 attempts ending in ties.

AOTHA Captaincy

Hello AOTHA! There are three captain spots that are up for vote beginning with the 2019/2020 season. If you are interested in serving in this capacity and would like to be put on the list of nominees for vote, please let League President, Brett White, know by emailing aothallc@gmail.com

Nominations need to be received by 12:00pm on March 14th.

Captaincy as defined in AOTHA Bylaws:

CAPTAINEach Board member, except the President and additional non-Captain Leadership Team Board member(s), will be assigned to represent (Captain) their team, and will be in charge of their respective team. These players will be elected by the general membership for a four-year term. There are no Term Limits, as long as the Board member is voted in by the general membership. However, any captain seeking additional, consecutive terms, after their first-term, must first be approved and nominated by a simple majority of the remaining board members.

Responsibilities:

  1. Team Representative: Distributes jerseys to each player on his team. Adheres to team/player rules as listed in the Bylaws and Rules document.
  2. Fee Collection: Encourage and remind their team to get payments in by due dates.
  3. Fair Play: Attempts to utilize all players during the game, as fairly as possible.
  4. Score Sheet / Roster: Prior to the start of the game, the Captain will report to the scorekeeper any roster changes concerning missing players and substitutes.
  5. Game Captain: Represents team for purposes of contact with referees and maintaining team composure in locker room and on the ice. Ensures that suspended players do not participate in game.
  6. Equipment: Collects all Jerseys at the end of season, or at termination of player’s participation in the league, for any reason. Launders all Jerseys at the end of season. Collects equipment loss fees from players who have lost their team Jersey.

PLAYOFFS – Week 3

Very few things cleared up with this week’s round of games, as Teal became the first to secure a semi-final position, while Purple and Silver were eliminated from semi-final contention.  The remaining seven teams will compete for the remaining three semi-final spots in the final week.  Reminder that whether your team gets into the semifinals or is eliminated, stay tuned next week for a schedule as all teams will be scheduled for games on 3/17. After two weeks of playoffs, here are the standings:

PlaceTeamPointsSeed
1Teal43
2Green32
3Neon36
4Gold38
5Yellow24
6Orange25
7Red27
8Black11
9Purple09
10Silver010

The final games of the round open on 3/10 with a 5:00 PM matchup between Teal and Gold.  Teal holds the regular season series advantage 2-0-0 over Gold, and another win will secure them the top seed in the semi-finals facing the last team in, while a loss could net them anywhere from the second seed to the fourth, based on how Green and Neon fair in their respective games. A Gold win guarantees them a spot on the semi-finals, somewhere between the first and third position, particularly impressive coming from the 8th place regular season finish.  However, that seeding does them no favors in the case of a loss, where they would finish outside the four, or a tie, where they would need a Green loss, or a Yellow Red tie, to remain in.

The second game of the night at 6:00 PM is between Black and Silver.  Black has the 2-0-0 regular season advantage over Silver, and will need another win for any chance at making the semi-finals.  The first-place regular season finish gives Black a chance with only 3 points by virtue of a tie breaker advantage over everyone, but it will be rooting for Purple over Green, Teal over Gold, and a Yellow Red tie, needing their win and two of those three things to happen to get into the final four.  Silver was eliminated with two losses in this round.

The 7:00 PM game is a matchup between Yellow and Red, which split 1-1-0 during the regular season. While the winner of this game can’t get in without help, either would be well positioned to take a semi-final spot coupled with either a Green loss to Purple, or Gold loss to Teal.  A Neon loss to Orange would also help a winning Yellow team move into the final four, but not a winning Red, who would stay behind Orange.

At 8:00 PM, Green and Purple will face off again, where Green holds to 2-0-0 advantage.  A Green win locks them into the top two, a tie keeps them in the final four, and a loss leaves them rooting for two of three other games to go their way; a Teal win over Gold, a Yellow Red tie, and Black not winning over Silver.  Purple’s two losses in this round eliminated them from semi-final contention.

The final game of the night and the round is the 9:00 PM tilt between Orange and Neon. They split the regular season 1-1-0.  A Neon victory here guarantees a top three finish, pending Green and Teal’s respective results.  A Teal, Red, or Purple win earlier will give Neon a tie option at squeezing into the final four as well, but a loss will eliminate them.  An earlier Teal, Red, or Purple win will mean an Orange win gets them into the final four as well.

Game Time Changes

Please note that the game times have changed for this week. The first game will now begin at 5pm. Please check the schedule to confirm your game time.

PLAYOFFS – Week 2

Playoffs: Week 1

The first week of the playoffs are complete, but the semi-final participants are far from decided. Reminder that this group will be decided by points in this round of three, with seed as the only tie breaker. Here are the standings after last week:

PlaceTeamPointsSeed
1Green22
2Teal23
3Yellow24
4Gold28
5Black11
6Neon16
7Orange05
8Red07
9Purple09
10Silver010

The first two games of the night on March 3rdfeature the four teams that won last week, guaranteeing that we will see a lot of change in the order of these standings after next week.

The first game begins at 6:00 PM with a Teal versus Yellow matchup of the 3rdand 4thseed.  Teal leads the season series with a 1-0-1 record against Yellow.  This game is followed at 7:00 PM with a Green versus Gold matchup of the 2ndand 8thseed.  Green and Gold split their regular season series.  The winners of either game are guaranteed to enter the final weekend of this round in 1stor 2ndplace, and in a solid place to lock up a semi-final slot.  A loss or a tie here will have them in the mix with many others competing for the final spots.

In the regular season, Black held the advantage over Red in head to head matchups with a 1-0-1 record and the 8:00 PM game will be a rematch between these teams, the 1stand 7thseed.  Red needs a win and some help to be in the mix for a semi-final spot, while a Black win will have them securely back in the top 4 of next week’s standings.

Neon and Purple split their regular season contests, and will meet again at 9:00 PM as the 6thand 9thseeds of the playoffs.  With a Neon victory and any results that are not a tie in the first two games of the night, Neon will be sitting in the top four going into the final week.  While Neon needs only this small ask, Purple needs a victory and a little more help to be in the mix for a semi-final spot in the final week of the round.

Orange has the advantage over Silver in the regular season matchups, with a 1-0-1 record, and they meet again to finish the evening’s games with a 10:00 PM matchup of the 5thand 10thseeds.  Both teams will need a victory on this night to keep their hopes alive for a semi-final spot.

Playoffs – Round of Three

Now that the regular season has been wrapped up, the round of three matchups have been set.  As a reminder, seeding is determined by points, then wins, head to head, and then point differential.

Black finished with the longest winning streak, going 8-0-1 in their second matchup with each team, for a season total of 28 points and the number one seed, and will face Neon, Red, and Silver in this round.

Green finished with the number two seed as the only team with two skaters averaging better than a goal a game, with 27 points on the season, and will face Orange, Gold, and Purple.

Teal rode the league’s highest point differential of 29 goals to 25 points and the three seed, and will face Purple, Yellow, and Gold.

Yellow allowed a league low 45 goals, 2.50 GAA and 9 goals better than the next best, on their way to a 24 point, four seed finish, and will face Silver, Teal, and Red.

Orange finished on a 3-0-2 tear, chasing the top 4, ultimately finishing just outside the group with 19 points and the five seed, and will face Green, Silver, and Neon.

Neon withstood late pushes by Red and Gold to finish holding the 6 seed, with 14 points, and will face Black, Purple, and Orange.

Red and Gold each finished with 12 points, and 5 wins, needing the head to head matchups, which favored Red 2-0-0, to break the tie.  Red takes the 7 seed, and with it faces Gold, Black, and Yellow.  Gold finishes with the 8 seed, and will face Red, Green, and Teal.

Purple needed their late season tie with Silver to hold on to the 9 seed with 10 points, and will face Teal, Neon, and Green.

Silver finished with the 10 seed, fighting until the end and finishing one point behind Purple with 9 points, and will face Yellow, Orange, and Black.

All teams are guaranteed these three games, after which the top four point earners in these three games will advance (2 points for a win, 1 for a tie, and 0 for a loss), with the higher seed winning the tiebreakers to advance to the semi-finals.  Good luck to everyone!

Last Week of Regular Season

Heading into the final week of the regular season, much remains unsettled. Three teams have locked in their regular season seeding; Yellow in #4, Orange in #5, and Neon in #6 seed!  Black, Teal, and Green will take the #1, #2, and #3 seeds, but the order needs to be determined.  Gold will finish #7 or #8, Red will finish anywhere from #7 to #10, while Purple and Silver will finish somewhere between #8 and #10.

Regular season seeding is determined by:

1)     Points

2)     Wins

3)     Head to head

4)     Point differential

Black and Teal open the evening at 6PM.  Together, with Green, they will take the 1, 2, and 3 seeds.  A Black win means they will be the #1 seed and Teal the #3 seed, locking Green into the #2 seed.  A Teal win means they move ahead of Black, and will need to wait for Green’s late game to see which 1 – 3 seed they take.  Likewise, a tie will leave Black ahead of Teal, while again, all would have to wait for the Green team play, where they still could earn any of those seeds.

In the round of three to follow next week, the #1 seed will face #6 (Neon), #7, and #10 seeds, the #2 seed will face the #5 (Orange), #8 and #9 seeds, and the #3 seed will face #4 (Yellow), #8 and #9 seeds.

Following this will be the 7PM game between Silver and Red.  A Silver loss or tie will leave them in the #10 seed, but a win will have them finish at #8 or #9, pending the results of Purple’s game later in the evening. A Red win will have them finish in the #7 or #8 seed, waiting on Gold’s game to determine, and a tie will have them in the #8 or #9 seed, and a loss in the #9 or #10 seed, both waiting on Purple’s game to determine.

At 8PM, Gold will face Orange.  While Orange is locked in at #5, a Red win and a Gold loss will have Red in the #7 seed and Gold in the #8 seed.  All other scenarios leave Gold at #7.  With the #5 seed, Orange will face #2, #6 (Neon), and #10.  Whether it is Red or Gold in the #7 seed, that seed will face #1, #4 (Yellow), and #8.

At 9PM, Purple will skate against Green.  If Black won the opening game, Green is locked in at #2.  However, a tie or a Black loss in that early game and Green is #1 with a win, #2 with a tie, or #3 with a loss.  A Red win over Silver locks Purple in at #9.  A Silver tie or win combined with a Purple win moves Purple up to #8.  However, the Silver win with a Purple tie or loss moves Purple to #10.  All other scenarios leave Purple at #8.

In the round of three the next week, the #8 seed will face #2, #3, and #7 seeds, the #9 seed will face #2, #3, and #6 (Neon) seeds, and the #10 seed will face #1, #4 (Yellow), and #5 (Orange) seeds.

In the final game of the night, at 10PM, Yellow will face Neon.  Each will look to fine tune their games heading into the playoffs, with their seeds locked in.  Yellow, in the #4 seed, will face #3, #7, and #10 seeds.  Neon, in the #6 seed, will face #1, #5 (Orange), and #9 seeds.

Look for updates next week about the Playoffs and matchups. While the lower seeds certainly have a tougher schedule to make it to the semi-finals, all teams will begin the Playoffs needing only three wins to ensure their semi-final berth. Good luck!
